An intense touring schedule and focused studio time have helped TAUK tap into
their singular chemistry to elevate and expand their all-instrumental blend of funk,
hip-hop, progressive rock, and jazz. Renowned for both their refined musicality
and unbridled creativity, the Oyster Bay, New York-bred rock-fusion four-piece
(guitarist Matt Jalbert, bassist Charlie Dolan, keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter, and
drummer Isaac Teel) push into new sonic terrain and build entire worlds within
each richly textured soundscape.

The band has returned to the studio to craft a follow up to 2016’s Sir Nebula
which found TAUK introducing a cosmically inspired element to their music. “The
album ended up taking on a more ambient kind of vibe than anything we’ve done
before—there’s a spaciness in the songs that lets you get lost in the sound,” says
Dolan. And while the album is endlessly hypnotic, TAUK also deliver the dynamic
tension-and- release jams that have helped earn them a devoted following while
drawing critical acclaim (the Washington Post, for one, praised TAUK for
“creating a hard-charging, often melodic fusion that—thanks to a penchant for
improv—offers limitless possibilities”).

As with their past releases, TAUK is creating the follow up to Sir Nebula in
collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer/mixer/engineer Robert
Carranza (The Mars Volta, Ozomatli, Jack Johnson, Taj Mahal). The band has
been holed up in an abandoned house, turned studio on Long Island, NY a
region which traces back to childhood, when longtime friends Dolan, Jalbert, and
Carter formed their first band in seventh grade and held practice in their school
basement. After playing together in various projects over the years, the trio
brought Teel into the fold in 2012, cementing the final lineup. “We gelled pretty
quickly as friends and as musicians, and now there’s a connection onstage that’s
unspoken,” notes Teel. “You just feel it from the energy within the band and from
the response coming from the crowd—all these people in the same exact
headspace.”

Since their formation, TAUK have shared stages with an impressive list of bands
(including Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce, and Tim Reynolds &
TR3), in addition to appearing at festivals like Electric Forest, Bonnaroo, and The
Allman Brothers’ Peach Music Festival. That rigorous touring schedule has gone
a long way in strengthening their chemistry, according to Carter. “We’re doing
over 100 shows a year and we pretty much live with each other, so there’s a
healthy respect and trust and love happening there,” he says. “We all have a
common goal and an understanding that this is something we’re compelled to do,
and that’s definitely brought us close together.” It’s also helped TAUK develop a
reputation as a masterful live act: “TAUK is unstoppable,” raved Live for Live
Music. “If you haven’t see them, dear God, go.”

Mark Banks Art Presents | Queendom Come 2018

  • ALULU Brewery and Pub (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The art and music events that we share at Alulu every month are focused on inclusion, empowerment, and communal joy. Discourses on equality and community only get us so far if we're not also engaging in the transformative power of communal celebration together in a regular way, at regular intervals of our being. We need rituals (parties) to anchor and materialize our collective affections and affinities!

The next monthly art and music show at Alulu will be a special kind of collective acknowledgment. We're happy to be welcoming to the stage the 4th installment of Queendom Come!! A Celebration of Women!!! We'll have the amazing R&B Songstress Lauren Eylise (from Cincinnati!) Awesome sounds of pop synth duo Pixel Grip, upbeat grooves from The Tomblands, and the one and only FURY HIP HOP! As always we'll have original artwork from 6 amazing local artists and a new craft beer making its debut on tap. Walter Santiago is co-curating this month, so come take a look at his collection! Get there before 10 pm when the kitchen closes for awesome food! SEE YOU THERE!! Stick around after the show for an open mic hosted by Gabe Sullivan until the bar closes!!

Paradigm CreatVe Group Hosts | ArtBeat Chicago

Start: 7PM  |  Tickets: $10 to $75  |   Ages: All

SO, WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Every other month, we handpick artists to create one of a kind pieces either paying tribute to legendary artists in the entertainment industry or that tie into a particular theme. We wanted to pull everyone out of the winterwoes and party Spring Break Style.

SPRING OUT!

This Art Beat will be held on Friday, March 30th from 7:00pm-midnight. The event is focused on reliving Spring Break, highlighting what it means to us, and getting everyone ready for the Season change!

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

We will have LIVE performances, special SURPRISES, Hookah Lounge, and opportunities for people to not only view the artists at work, BUT be a part of creating art on their own. There will be an Arts & Crafts Creation Station, Canvas Painting, and painting of a Community Art Wall for all those who love to be hands on.

All in a SOCIAL PARTY ENVIRONMENT. Interesting right?

Art Beat was made to create a platform for artist to share their voices, visions and ideas with the world. By implementing "The Rising Stars" aspect into Artbeat, we not only spotlight the artist visual creations but we allow them to discuss their experiences on a panel at Art Beat Chicago. These artist completely expose the prize possessions that they hold dear to their hearts to everyone who listens, feels and relates to them at the Art Beat Social Art Party.

Giving you MORE ART, MORE FUN and MORE PARTY. Expect for nothing short of a good time as we celebrate the artist and the spectators alike. On March 30th at Baderbrau expect:

The Art Institute and Empty Bottle Present | Gas by Wolfgang Voigt

Starts: 7:30PM  |  Ends: 9PM  |  Tickets: $10 Member or $20 Adult  |   All Ages

Experience a rare multimedia performance by Wolfgang Voigt, one of the most influential figures in contemporary electronic music, as he brings his project GAS to The Art Institute of Chicago. Drawing on Romantic landscape and classical music as much as ambient minimalism and techno, Voigt creates an uplifting and enveloping evocation of the wonder of the natural world.

Based in Cologne, Germany, Wolfgang Voigt has had a prodigious output under various aliases on many record labels, including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton and Force Inc, and the label he co-founded - Kompakt. The four GAS albums, originally released between 1996 and 2000, were reissued in 2008 to enormous international acclaim, and they have been widely recognized as the most important ambient music creations of the 1990s. After 17 years, Voigt returned to GAS with the release of Narkopop a new album of symphonic ambient music.

BUKU Music + Art Project 2018

Fri: 2PM to 1AM | Sat: 2PM to 11:59PM | Tickets: See link below | Ages: 18+ w/ ID

BUKU is so much more than music. BUKU has become a celebration of the creative, funky subculture of New Orleans. With the goal of creating a head-spinning immersive experience, the BUKulture curators handpick dozens of authentic street performers, musicians, artists, interactive exhibits and other awe-inspiring “special moments” and deliver them at the festival in an unscheduled “pop-up” fashion. So put your phone down, keep your chin up, and be ready to experience BUKulture!

:: A note from the BUKU Art Curator ::

BUKU was born in the dirty docks of the Mississippi and resides in its forgotten industry. Art emerges of its own accord, inspired by the festival’s post-industrial setting and the vibrant street culture found in the city in which it resides. BUKU is no Art Gallery, it is an Art Project, its landscape in a constant state of change. Through innovation and adaptation the site has been revived, featuring local favorites like Fort BUKU and the ever growing Live Graffiti Gallery, along with new additions that seek to bring avant-garde art with a heavy industrial focus, creating a functional and interactive playgrounds for everyone to participate, relax, and get #TOOBUKU.
